great at. THAT is where you bring something unique to the world.
Clean the clutter out of your life, remove the superfluous, and like
a sculptor carve away absolutely everything that doesn t match
the ideal vision in your head. When you do this, new opportunities
you never imagined will rush in to fill that space.
So here s your next exercise...
DO THIS NOW:
Make some quiet time this evening and take out your notebook
and pen. I want you to write half a page on the following
questions: What is the ideal simple, good life for you? How
would your life be simpler? How would your ideal simple life
be different from the life you have now?
Examine each aspect of your life, consciously and deliberately.
And begin removing those non-essential elements so you can focus
on the things that truly matter to you.
And remember to pause every 4 to 6 months to reassess. Clutter
has a way of creeping back in, just like dust in a room. Houseclean
any new distractions and get back on track.

MOTIVATION, AND WHY YOU NEED TO
he other tool that will keep your progress in high gear is
having a clear understanding of exactly what motivates
Tyou.
If advertisers can tap into your deepest desires and motivations to
push your buttons and get you to buy a product, then you can tap
into those same powerful motivations to overcome setbacks and
keep your lifestyle design on track. These are just tools, after all.
And you can apply them to suit your own purposes.
We ve already talked about how sticking to your plan gets easier
as you build new habits that gradually become a part of your life.
But good habits aren t enough when the going gets tough. How do
you stay on track when temptation dangles a donut in your path?
Or when the gods of slumber tempt you with a soft pillow when
you re supposed to wake up and get to work?
How you keep the fires of motivation burning is as individual as
your taste in music, books or food. It s up to you to zero in on your
own underlying drives. If you have a clear understanding of what
makes you tick, you can use it as leverage when you re tempted
to take the easy road in spite of your goals.
I firmly believe motivation must come from within.
Nothing motivates me more than looking in the mirror and
realizing I m not living up to my potential.
Perhaps I ve returned from a writing assignment that knocked my
training schedule for a loop, or an expedition that left me a little
banged up. I can t rest easy until I ve got a plan for getting back
in top form, and until I m making significant progress on that plan.

How to Find Your Motivation, And Why You Need To
In terms of exercise, I believe that my physical health and vitality
is the foundation for everything, and that it gives me the mental
energy to apply to my goals. I hate the feeling of not being at my
physical best, and I won t rest until I ve trimmed my waist and
put that muscle back on my frame.
Sure, it s a struggle that I encounter after every expedition the
discomfort of adjusting to a program again as if for the first time
but the alternative is unacceptable. And I know that initial misery
only lasts a few days.
I m also motivated by the feeling of vitality, energy, strength
and confidence that seems to exude from a redesigned body and
mind. And conversely, I hate the way being out of shape feels. The
roll of fat around the middle, getting out of breath, feeling tired
and lethargic. I just don t want to live my life in that state.
I ve always been thin, so I rarely ever have to focus on dieting.
I eat healthy because I enjoy it. I prefer wholesome foods over
junk, and I don t crave sweets (because, quite frankly, I m sweet
enough...). I don t know if that s a result of eating healthy over
the years so that my body s in tune with what it needs, and
recognizes the taste of junk for what it is. Or if it s just a natural
predilection. But I have had to diet a few times in the past, and
it definitely requires all the motivation I can muster. I hate being
told what to do, and I hate restricting myself.
That hatred of being told what to do extends to my view of
society. The opinions of others don t motivate me. Nor does the
idea of setting an example for someone else to follow. Yes, I value [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
